Punk and New Wave Photos: The Buzzcocks in Liverpool in 1978.
Above Photo: Steve Diggle of the Buzcocks in Virgin Records, Liverpool, Friday 17th March 1978.
I took these photos of the Buzzcocks in March 1978, at a signing they’d attended at Virgin Records in St John’s Market in Liverpool city centre, after playing at Eric’s the night before. I’d skived off school especially so I could see them.
Back then the band consisted of Pete Shelley (guitar and vocals), Steve Garvey (bass), John Maher (drums) and Steve Diggle (guitar) .
When I got there, I immediately bought their new album, Another Music in a Different Kitchen, and asked them to sign it. I still have it in my stored record collection.
The below really crappy photo of them playing at Mountford Hall, Liverpool University, was taken in May 1978, when they were supported by Penetration and Big In Japan.I don’t know who signed my name on this (below) but I think it might have been Steve Diggle, looking at the “t” and ballooning “l” in his own autograph and the ‘t’ and ‘d’ in mine.
I’m just posting these here them for Punk Posterity, rather than for any photo-journalism awards!
And two of my favourite tracks off the Another Music album, including the opening track, Fast Cars. What a start to an album….
