Medieval Beast Banter: An Unorthodox Approach To Art History.

Although not much to do with my Punk and New Wave Memoir, Bombed Out!, someone recently sent me an article called “44 Medieval Beasts That Cannot Even Handle It Right Now” by Tom Phillips on the website www.buzzfeed.com.
I thought it was excellent: the depth of research to find the 44 mythical, beautifully drawn animals in medieval illuminated manuscripts is alone an impressive feat. And then to write such amusingly witless prose, masquerading as artistic commentary, is a stroke of genius.
I have just added my favourites here, with the captions as written in the original article. The link to the full article is at the end, and it’s well worth checking out. If you don’t like his commentaries, you can still enjoy the drawings, which were done by Monks in monasteries across Europe, over 1,000 years ago.
