Morrissey’s ‘Every Day is Like Sunday’ – In Vietnam…

As I strolled down the wind and rain blasted promenade of the tiny Vietnamese coastal town of Dong Hoi recently, I couldn’t help but think of lyrics from Morrissey’s superb 1988 single (and Viva Hate album track) “Every Day is Like Sunday”, which must be one of the most brilliantly mood-capturing songs ever released.

Although the song is about nuclear Armageddon, some of the lyrics present themselves automatically on any miserable, wet walk down a weather-battered promenade, anywhere in the world.

Unfortunately Dong Hoi wasn’t the seaside town they forgot to bomb, as it was bombed to fuck during the Vietnam War, but that’s another story…
